Get Started as Designer
Hey designers, our design system = less tweaking, more time for daydreaming!
As a designer, playing with new designs is exciting. There's something special about tweaking a button's border-radius from 4px to 6px. Yet, keeping designs consistent is where the real magic happens. That's why our design system, RDS, steps in. With RDS, you'll spend less time tweaking and more time thinking.
RDS consists of entire design system that will be building block for any projects. As designer, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time you start the project. When starting a project you can enable Rara Design System from
"Assets {">"} Libraries"
and
Shift + I
to search or import components with ease.
Using a design system doesn’t guarantee compatibility to every projects. It may not solve every design problems as projects may requires different aesthetics and functionality. So, such cases you can always detach the component and modify it.
There are 3 different Figma Files you should know about. You don’t need these files while designing but knowing their purpose will be beneficial.
  • RDS / Themes
All theme aspects of the design system are defined here. Shadow, Spacing, Elevation, Typography and Design Tokens are included. You have to enable it to use Figma Variables.

  • RDS / Components
This file consists almost all the necessary components to build a product. Each having different types, variants, styles, sizes and instances.

  • RDS / Patterns
With our past experiences and designs we maintain some patterns. It helps to get start with common designs like Auth, Form, Notification, Error Pages etc.

Design Process - Design the Rara Way
Our design process is flexible, adapting to each project's needs. We prioritize rapid iteration and quick feedback over rigidly following design thinking steps. This enables faster improvement and reduces surprises for UI/UX designers.
Gathering Requirements
Your adventure begins with a series of meetings. Product owners and stakeholders will shower you with requirements and problem statements, but remember, the information you receive might be incomplete. Embrace the detective spirit! Ask those insightful questions that unlock hidden information – "asking good questions gets good answers." Visualization is your superpower. Weave your magic with sketches and Lo-Fi designs, helping everyone picture the product's future.

And a pro tip – physical notes are your golden thread, weaving a personalized reference manual as you go.

Building on RDS’s Foundation
Start your canvas with a existing system – the Rara Design System! Think of it as a single source of pre-built UI screens and patterns – forms, error pages, logins, you name it. Search before you reinvent the wheel – leverage these existing elements to jumpstart your design journey. Don't worry about creativity getting lost in this pre-built system – customization is your weapon, allowing you to transform these elements into masterpieces unique to your project. Remember, past projects are your design mentors – learn from their successes and failures to craft even better experiences. RDS's system guides your choices, but innovation is always welcome – if time and priorities are aligned.
The Feedback Feedback Loop
In Rara's design world, "final" is a flexible term. "Final.psd," "final1.psd," “final_updated.pdf”, “final_sure_final.psd” — you get the picture! Change requests are not your enemies, but opportunities to polish your design diamond. Learn to discern the gems of genuine feedback from the pebbles of misguided suggestions. This is where the review process shines – it's a microscope that reveals potential issues and polishes the user experience to a sparkling finish. Unlike graphic design, product design thrives on checkpoints – regular reviews ensure your solutions strike the perfect balance between function, aesthetics, and user delight. So, keep your lead and peers in the loop, share your design decisions with clear reasoning, and embrace their diverse perspectives – together, you'll create masterpieces that stand the test of time.
Beyond the Basics
But our design process isn't just about these core steps. Here are some additional things to remember
  • User research is vital: Don't just rely on meetings and assumptions. Dive deeper with user interviews, surveys, and usability testing to truly understand your audience's needs and pain points.
  • Prototyping fuels iteration: Don't wait for perfection. Build quick and dirty prototypes early and often to gather feedback and refine your ideas.
  • Collaboration is key: Remember, you're not alone in this journey. Work closely with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to ensure your designs are feasible and impactful.
  • First Components then Layout: Its always good thing to start from small and go big. Making sure all the components are available and then starting layout design is right thing to do.
This guide is just a starting point – feel free to personalize it with your own Rara design flair! Remember, flexibility and iteration are your keys to design success. Now go forth and create experiences!
